PPC Geeks - A Leading Business in Employee Mental Health
Providing a healthy and productive work environment where everybody can flourish in their roles at PPC Geeks is immeasurably important. Supporting the mental health of our employees is an essential part of how we operate as an ethical business, demonstrating our profound commitment to being a warmhearted agency that never puts profit before personal health.

According to the UK charity Mind, 1 in 4 people may experience a mental health issue of some kind each year, while 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression in any given week. Unfortunately, people continue to feel unable to speak out about their mental health issues, which is why it’s so important for us at PPC Geeks to create an open environment where people can feel comfortable asking for help or knowing where to find it should they ever need support.
Since our foundation in 2018, mental health has always been a priority for us - before it became a buzzword or part of a strategic advertising campaign. Nevertheless, we have continued to make significant strides as an ethical, people-led business, providing a range of short, medium and long term solutions and initiatives which go a long way to supporting our teams’ mental health requirements.
Indeed, we feel it is even more appropriate - given that we are a 100% remote company - to put in place extra support for our team as we don’t interact with them in-person on a day-to-day basis. This is just one of the ways in which we endeavour to support the needs of the individuals we work with.
How We Support Your Mental Health at PPC Geeks
At PPC Geeks, we are steadfast in our drive to become more responsible, ethical, and mental health aware in everything we do. We believe that businesses should have a conscience, be it a mental health conscious or simply a desire to contribute positively to their employees happiness and wellbeing . We take this responsibility as seriously as we take business performance.
We pride ourselves on backing up our words with actions. For instance, PPC Geeks is proud members of the Good Business Charter, which is dedicated to championing ethical and responsible business practices, which includes implementing robust mental health procedures. We are also proud to be a Living Wage Employer. This means we pay our employees a wage that meets the cost of living. Everyone deserves to be able to live comfortably, and by being able to do so has proven to be hugely beneficial to both physical and mental health.
Great Place to Work
PPC Geeks is ‘Great Place to Work’ accredited. It is of utmost importance to us that our team feels happy at work. In doing so, they can continue to push the boundaries in an open, honest, respectful, healthy and rewarding working environment. This endeavour to create the best working environment possible means that we have also signed the ‘Mindful Employer Charter.’ This means that we have made a commitment to promoting the importance of good mental health across our team.
We are combative in our dedication to deliver the best results for your business as possible. That said, we are extremely gentle, caring and appreciative of peoples’ mental health; we care just as much about making a positive impact on the people we share the world with as we do about achieving success. We are sincere, driven, diligent and unwavering in our quest to do our part in helping people, be that in life or to simply get through the day.
Mental Health Statistics at Work
Working conditions and workplace environment can have a monumental impact on mental health, and, also, someone's mental health can massively impact their ability to perform well in their job. Some of the most thought-provoking statistics around mental health and wellbeing at work include:
- 1 in 6.8 people experience mental health problems in the workplace
- Women are nearly twice as likely to have a common mental health problem as men (19.8% vs 10.9%)
- Evidence suggests that 12.7% of sickness absence days in the UK can be put down to a mental health condition
- Better mental health support in the workplace can save UK businesses up to £8 billion annually
Building a Healthy Workplace Culture
Sadly, 14.7% of people admit to having experienced mental health problems in the workplace, while only 13% of employees said they felt comfortable discussing their mental health at work. These statistics are unfortunately much too common - and they are also having an impact on business. According to the World Health Organisation, around 12 billion working days - or 50 million years of work - are lost every year to depression and anxiety, while mental health issues cost the global economy around £1 trillion every year, notes the Workplace Mental Health Institute.
That being said, PPC Geeks is always working to foster a supportive workplace culture; here are some of the other ways we support positive mental health in the workplace in order to never contribute to the above statistics:
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) - Provided by Wellbeing Solutions, this employer-funded service gives employees and their families 24 hour access to free and confidential counselling and advice services
- Mindful Employer Charter Members - We have recently signed the Charter for Employers Positive about Mental Health. PPC Geeks stands by this charter and the commitments it entails
- Flexible Working - We work to suit the ways of working that are best for our employee’s needs, be it flexible start and finish times, time for medical appointments, and staggered hours
- Mental Health First Aid Training - All of our managers undertake mental health first aid training and it is open to any member of the team who is interested
- Transparent Employee Handbook - Our ethos and guidelines are set out in clear ways that all of our team can read and provide feedback on. It is a ‘live’ document that is always open to change if something arises that we feel is a good fit with our core mission and values
- Events and Meet-Ups - As a remote company we are aware that individuals can sometimes feel that they miss out on some aspects of day-to-day working life. As well as encouraging chats and video calls with colleagues to build relationships, we run regular remote events such as pub quizzes and games of bingo - we also meet up 2-3 times a year in person across various UK cities where we get to know each other and form tighter bonds
- 4 Day Work Week Trial - We are excited to announce that we are trialling a 4 day working week in July and August, 2023. It is a plan we have had for quite some time in order to improve employee wellbeing, boost productivity and both retain and hire new talent
