PPC News June 2023: we’re in the throes of summer, but the soaring temperatures won’t be slowing us down from delivering success for our clients and reporting on some of the biggest stories dominating the marketing sector. In this, the sixth monthly update of 2023, we take a closer look at everything including what the next stage of Google merchant centre may entail, new UET insights for Microsoft advertising, and how to increase your ROAS with Performance Max.

As the sun starts to set earlier and earlier (yes, it’s already started to set earlier), it’s a good way to cap the month by just stopping, pausing and reflecting on the previous month, as it can be hugely beneficial to see just how far the hard work and dedication of our incredible team has brought us in what has been an amazing five months for our team of Google Ad experts.

This outstanding work ethic is constantly echoed in our TrustPilot reviews: check them out.

So, without further ado, let’s get started. There’s a lot to get through.

The Next Stage for Google Merchant Centre

PPC News June 2023 overview:

We begin our review in the first week of June, during which we take a closer look at the next stage for Google Merchant Centre. In June, Google confirmed that by 2024, Google Merchant Centre will be replaced by Merchant Centre Next which, according to a spokesperson for the company, will be automatically pulling in products, pricing, imagery and more from your website. Which is exciting!

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

While the look and feel of Merchant Centre Next will be completely different, it’s the more radical changes to its usability and performance that Google Ad experts need to be aware of, including improvements in data collection and the updates made to product feed.

New UET Insights for Microsoft Advertising

PPC News June 2023 overview:

From a Microsoft perspective, June was a significant month, especially as it introduced new UET insights – an intriguing new feature which will help businesses understand user engagement more effectively. UET, which stands for Universal Event Tracking, is a powerful tool that enables users to unlock a range of tools such as conversion tracking, remarketing, and automated bidding strategies.

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

To understand UET Insights, then you need to understand Microsoft Advertising UET tag. An exciting new feature which enables you to track what customers are doing after they click on your ad, there are a variety of new features to be aware of when UET is launched world-wide in July including website data in a built-in dashboard and improved ad performance.

How to Increase Your ROAS with Performance Max

PPC News June 2023 overview:

It seems June was the month to announce something exciting or significant. While it announced that Performance Max remains on course to replace Smart Shopping this year, not many users were able to get their heads around how to increase their ROAS. In short, Performance Max has been constructed to help advertisers reach shoppers as they search the internet for products they’re interested in. Indeed, by creating an omnichannel experience, businesses can significantly increase their ROAS.

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

We’ve always been big advocates of adjusting your priorities slightly, in order to achieve Performance Max success and increase your ROAS. In doing so, we noted a list of best practices to achieve success which included planning how you’re going to integrate Performance Max into your strategy, the importance of quality assets, and making first-party data your priority – all of which can help you increase your ROAS.

How The Instagram Algorithm Can Work For You

PPC News June 2023 overview:

In June, CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, released a new video explaining in detail how the Instagram algorithm actually works, including the inside track in regard to Stories, Reels, Explore, and the Feed. In his video statement, Mosseri spoke candidly about shadow banning, reviewing your account status, and best practices for increasing your Instagram audience.

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

Without going into too much detail, the crux of Mosseri’s video centres around Instagram having multiple algorithms. In short, Instagram is constantly striving to create the most personalised experience possible to keep users engaged with the platform for extended periods of time, be that Stories, Reels or exploring the Feed. Additionally, the Instagram CEO also revealed a number of best practices for growing your account including experimenting with various types of content, using insights to see certain patterns emerging, and always trying to create 100% original content.

New Dimensions & Metrics for GA4

PPC News June 2023 overview:

Google Analytics 4 audience builder has gained six new dimensions and metrics this June. The new metrics include country, manual term, mobile device info, minute, new vs returning and session duration. Put simply, this update is an example of Google’s pursuit of making Google Analytics 4 the ultimate analytical tool that surpasses its competition.

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

Google’s audience builder tool helps you to create segments based on dimensions and metrics, involving a range of users who visit your website. And with an approaching deadline of July 1, segmenting your users is going to be even more vital for your business as doing so helps you monitor how your website is performing against your set objectives.

New Trademark Complaints Rules in Google Ads

PPC News June 2023 overview:

Our PPC experts also changed tact slightly in June, instead writing about the new trademark complaints rule in Google Ads. In a shock announcement, Google announced it was only going to accept trademark complaints against specific advertisers or ads.

PPC News June 2023 key findings:

Under the current Google Ads trademark complaints policy, all ads in an entire industry can be restricted from using trademarked material when complaints are filed. With this in mind, Google is changing its policy next month so that it is more user friendly, accessible and engaging for its advertising partners and users.
