Our strategic makeover was something that the Managing Director bought into & his designated PPC Geeks team set about creating a data driven roadmap that set out the initial 3 months. This included initially expanding their offering by developing their Search & Shopping campaigns to run more efficiently, with elements such as tighter keyword usage & establishing a Maximize Conversions bid strategy.

What was particularly challenging about The IT Bay was that we started from scratch due to the business launching a brand new website. Thus, the historic data we had was based on traffic landing on a very different user experience. Early collaboration was key in supporting the client to design the best user experience & platform for success.

We also worked alongside the client to identify those product lines in his feed that worked best for him in terms of margin: we trialled changing the names of products to see if this made them more attractive to users. We were also successful in working with The IT Bay in analysing their Price Feed to locate that all-important ‘sweet spot’ - identifying those products that are high margin, that have a high CTR & lower CPC.

We ran experiments to gain insight to how broad match keywords could drive sales & other enquiries. Our experience of this sector is that it is highly competitive & keywords can be costly if not monitored, so we wanted to ensure this addition would not be cost ineffective when added. When it became available we moved some of the shopping campaigns over to Performance Max to further furnish the suite of products & tools we are using within the Google Ads UI. And early signs are very encouraging!

Moving forward we recently undertook market analysis to support the client launch & evolve their refurbished technology products. We look to launch this new product line in July. We are also now using a variety of bid strategy types: data dictates that some remain as Maximize Conversions, some are now set as Target ROAS & some are now POAS.

Drops In CPAs & CPCs
By adding another variable to the data layer we can now track the gross profit of the products the client sells. We implemented this in May so are still in the learning period/early days but this enables us to give a clearer report of just how much their digital marketing is contributing in terms of profits. Currently we are running at a POAS of 2.2 but our target is 2.4, so we still have work to do.
